Prime Minister Hun Manet Leads Council of Ministers Meeting to Discuss National Initiatives

Phnom Penh, July 4, 2024 – Prime Minister Hun Manet chaired a comprehensive session of the Council of Ministers this morning at the Peace Palace, focusing on key legislative and developmental plans.

Today's agenda covered significant national concerns, including the Draft National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction 2024-2028 and the Draft Sub-Decree on the Management of the Three-Year Rolling Public Investment Program. Additionally, the Cabinet addressed a request to seek legislative approval for the draft law concerning the Convention on the Unification of Certain Rules for International Air Transport.

The meeting focused on the following critical points:

A thorough review and subsequent decision on the "Disaster Risk Reduction 2024-2028" action plan, aiming to strengthen the nation’s resilience to natural disasters.

Discussions on the draft "Sub-Decree on Management of 3-Year Rolling Public Investment Program," which is crucial for the strategic allocation and management of the nation’s public investment funds.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has emphasized the importance of robust cooperation among local authorities and relevant ministries in responding to affected communities. He highlighted the need to provide essential assistance, such as seeds and other resources, to farmers impacted by recent pest outbreaks, ensuring they can replant and recover. The Primer urged the Royal Government to visit the affected areas, assess the actual impact, and make specific recommendations as necessary.

In his concluding remarks at the meeting, Prime Minister expressed gratitude to all government officials, ministries, institutions, and the general public for their support of the Funan Techo canal project. The groundbreaking ceremony for this canal, set for August 5, 2024, is expected to be a significant national event. He called on national and sub-national institutions to participate in activities across the country, including ringing bells and drums at 9:00 am, coinciding with the ceremonial pressing of the groundbreaking button. The celebration will include concerts and fireworks displays nationwide.

He also extended his thanks to the Ministry of Interior, the National Police, and the National Gendarmerie for their efforts in combating drugs, illegal gambling, and gang activities. He urged continued efforts from all relevant authorities to implement policies ensuring the safety and security of villages, communes, and sangkats.

This gathering of Cambodia's top government officials underscores the administration's proactive approach to addressing pivotal issues that impact national development and international cooperation.
